Shortage of TestIM

Shortage of TestIM

Postby MikeDCross » Fri Jan 12, 2018 5:39 am

Hi

For 15 of the last 18 months, I have taken my prescription for Testim to the Sainsbury's chemist and a week later they have given me the boxes; then the chemist changed to Lloyds, only the name changed or so I thought; in December they were able to issue 1/2 my prescription; and in Jan they have been unable to issue the missing from December or any of my Jan prescription. Not overly concern as I have a spare box to use up.

But, is there a shortage of Testim in the UK or are they just being ineffective?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike

I'm not too sure about Testim but I am normally prescribed Testogel but November and December my pharmacy gave me Testim instead as there was a production problem (I think) from what the pharmacist said. If that's the case it may simply be that with problems making one a lot more have been given a different version which has resulted in the supply chain drying up. I've also just noticed that the latest chronics list gives a generic description rather than a brand as it was previously so perhaps the problem is now spreading?

Regards
Tim (p.s. do you think there is anyone else out there? Currently this feels more like private messaging rather than a members forum.)

Tim,

That could well be the problem, I'm not overly concerned just now I have a few more weeks supply

Regarding your comment about the forum - I personally find the forum essential, I get far more from the forum than I do from medical people - but I probably get answers from 5 people. Now the answers are great and I am really grateful, but we are supposed to have 2300 members, so why are only 0.2% of the members active on the forum.

I would like to say I had a solution, but I honestly have no idea why people do not use the forum. Perhaps we need to email all the members and either ask them why they don't use the forum or encourage them to do.

As always thanks

Mike

Mike

There's a support group meeting in Bristol next week I think. If the brain fog permits I might ask around to see if people even know about it.

Tim,

Did you get to the meeting? Did you ask why the forum is not as active as we would like?

My email to the company who make TestIM has gone unanswered - which is annoying, I will try again using a different route.

My pharmacist says that they are having problems getting most of the T replacement products, and said that I may have to go to injections, as she is pretty unable to guess when we can get gels.

Sadly the support group meeting was cancelled because we couldn't get a speaker so the discussion will have to wait until the February meeting.

On the original topic for this thread I've been told by my community pharmacist that his suppliers don't expect to have any stock of testosterone gel (either Testim or Testogel) before mid-February at the earliest. I interpret that as meaning probably well into March before I get any.

All the best

Shame the meeting was cancelled; butter luck next time :-)

I really must make the effort to go to a meeting, unfortunately, my "local" meeting is London, and I really do not like travelling to London; I will have to see if there is a non-local meeting which is easier to get to.

My email to Ferring UK was ignored; so I have mailed the UK and US (pointing out that their UK organisation had ignored me) - that normally gets a response from both :-)

Today, I've written to my GP to see which alternative I can use just in case I run out before supply starts again.

I really fail to understand how they can just stop making TestIM and not tell people in advance...very poor business.

I stumbled across the following web-page https://www.prescriber.org.uk/2018/01/notice-of-testim-discontinuation/ which suggests that we are going to need a new medication option shortly.

This may be an alternative - Testogel by Besins Healthcare. In December 2017 they said stocks were coming in after a slight delay, so if this is suitable do speak to your GP or pharmacist.

Hi Mike

I ended on Testim because there was no Testogel available. I understand Testogel (my preferred option because I find it dries faster) was unavailable because of a manufacturing supply problem which should be resolved by mid-February. Circles and going round spring to mind.
