testing cortisol levels

Does anyone else have the experience of inconsistent cortisol levels? If so, then any ideas of what could be causing it and how do you manage in terms of medications?

It seemed as though my cortisol levels were improving and my hydrocortisone dose was reduced. But then in subsequent blood tests, sometimes my cortisol levels are nice and high and then at the next they are pathetic.

Even if I stop taking medications 2 days before the blood tests in order to avoid 'residual hydrocortisone' messing up the results, sometimes the blood cortisol is 'ok' and sometimes too low.

Frankly I feel rubbish whether or not I take the hydrocortisone tablets and I am finding it hard to keep taking them.
