New Society for Endocrinology guidelines

New Society for Endocrinology guidelines

Wasn't quite sure whereabouts to put this....

I saw this posted on Twitter yesterday evening by several of the Endo's I follow - you may have seen them too.

http://www.endocrinology.org/press/pres ... ergencies/

These guidelines refer to 5 specific topics:

    Acute adrenal insufficiency
    Severe symptomatic hyponatraemia
    Acute hypocalcaemia
    Acute hypercalcaemia
    Pituitary apoplexy

I decided to be a bit cheeky and Tweet the Endo's that I follow to understand exactly how these 'guidelines' get implemented at a local level in a hospital. The answer seems to be that these guidelines get disseminated and then the Endo offers to go into the relevant department to train the teams there on the new guidelines. I'm honestly not sure if it is that 'simple' or whether it takes more than that. I might consider printing the adrenal insufficiency PDF and keep it to hand in case I'm ever admitted - it might be useful to wave at someone in A&E!! My one and only admittance to A&E with an AI crisis, I also had hyponatraemia.....so bonus points for me!

There are a lot of active healthcare professionals on social media - I really like Twitter even though I'm in my 50's but a lot of HCP's are of course a lot younger so more active. I'm very interested in the NHS in general, so you get to see some interesting stuff. The one's I follow are:

Partha Kar - my own consultant, he is @parthaskar

Helen Simpson - @hormone_doc (consultant Endo)

Mark Vanderpump - @DrMVanderpump (consultant Endo)

Anna Mitchell - @Anna_L_Mitchell (Endocrine registrar)

HW Gan - @hwganendodoc (Paediatric Endo)

Society for Endocrinology - @Soc_Endo

Ali Chakera - @AliJChakera (consultant Endo)

Sofia Llahana - @SofiaLlahana (consultant Endo nurse)

Stephanie Baldeweg - @DrBaldeweg (consultant Endo)

I'm sure there are plenty more!
