Following my adrenal crisis last month, today my lovely Endocrine nurse has trained my husband and daughter how to use the emergency injection. Hopefully will never need it again but happier now they know what to do. Thank goodness for Specialist nurses.

Hi
Glad things are working out for you with your family getting training. It's also good to check out the videos on the http://www.addisons.org.uk ADSHG website. They are great for refresher training or to help with confidence. There's also some good stuff in the video by Prof Wass about when to give an injection. It seems that we are often too reluctant to use the emergency kit.
Take care of yourself

Hope you feel fully recovered after your adrenal crisis experience. Any ideas what triggered it?

Did the endocrine nurse also show you how to prepare the injection and give it?

Best

Thanks Kitkat ,
I’m fully recovered thanks, it was triggered by Noro virus!!

I have been shown how to self inject but unfortunately I rapidly went very shaky and was needing the loo so much I couldn’t do it. During last weeks training the nurse said with sickness to make up injection immediately you become unwell and inject as you’re going to need it. Better too much than too little.

Hi again,

Yes, my personal experience taught me the same lesson. I need to use my injection in that first 20 minute window when I still feel as if I don't need it. After that, I rapidly become too weak to sit up and prepare the injection, with shaky hands like you.

Hope you feel more confident now about managing the next winter bug you meet.

Best

KitKat

Yes we all do, thanks.
